GL-UNA's MISSION
GL-UNA’s mission is to inspire and mobilize the community to support the work of the United Nations and its agencies through education and advocacy.
UNA-USA
Greater Lansing Chapter of the United Nations Association of the USA is one of more than 200 chapters in the United States and over 1000 UNA chapters around the world. UN Association members are internationally minded people who recognize and support the essential role the United Nations plays in our world.
UNA-USA is a voluntary membership organization with the primary purpose of educating our communities about the United Nations and to encourage their support of it. Members are empowered to advocate for their political leaders’ support for the vital programs and essential activities of the UN.
Our Chapter
Greater Lansing UNA was organized in 1959 by internationally experienced leaders in the community, many of whom were affiliated with Michigan State University.
In recent years our chapter has actively partnered with other community organizations including MSU International Studies and Programs, Peace Education Center, Zonta Clubs, Intercultural Association of Michigan, various faith communities, and others to support UN initiatives at the local level.
Membership is open and encouraged for all who share the vision of a better world as described in the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In addition to our affiliates, we have active partnerships for lobbying Congress and the Administration on peace, justice, and UN support issues with the Peace Education Center (PEC) and the Lansing Area Friends Committee for National Legislation (FCNL). GL-UNA is an affiliate for informational dissemination with the Michigan Peace Alliance (MPA). We also closely cooperate with the Greater Detroit Chapter of the United Nations Association and the United Nations Association of MSU.
Annual programs and events include:
- World Friendship Day
- International Women’s Day
- Earth Day

“More than ever before in human history, we share a common destiny. We can master it only if we face it together. And that is why we have the United Nations.”
