Founder and Director of SecurityWomen, advocacy and research NGO, calling for greater awareness of gender equality issues within security globally, both through the UN, internationally and in each country, reviewing progress against UNSCR 1325. SecurityWomen promotes the inclusion of more women in the highly male-dominated security sector: policing, armed forces, peacekeeping, private and cyber security (https://securitywomen.org).
Juliet completed a PhD on social and gender relations in Botswana with the University of East Anglia (UEA) UK in 2014. She has been a visiting scholar to the New School, New York, and Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Earlier this year, gave a UEA University of Sanctuary public lecture on the Gendered Security of the Refugee Journey.
Juliet is an active member of UNA UK and Vice-President of UNA Westminster. She is former President of UNIFEM UK (now UN Women UK) and former Trustee and Chair of the National Alliance of Women’s Organisations (NAWO). As a NAWO UN ECOSOC representative, she has attended many UN meetings, including CSW and UNGA, from 2013 to present.
Juliet has a business background in HR management in the private sector and has run her own HR consultancy. She is a graduate of Exeter University, and has a Master’s degree in Strategic Human Resources. When in New York, she lives in her one-bed co-op in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. She has traveled widely throughout USA, but not to Michigan and is looking forward to visiting.
