Global Goals – Local Leader Awardee
David Arnosti is committed to leading interfaith efforts to care for Creation and promote climate justice through his work with the Capital Area Chapter of Michigan Interfaith Power and Light (miipl.org). Since 2020, he has worked with dedicated members from fifteen local houses of worship to support renewable energy and sustainability in their congregations and in the wider Lansing community. The Capital Area Chapter originated and funded a project to support the work of the South Side Community Coalition, allowing this nonprofit to “go solar” with a 13 kW solar roof, saving thousands in utility costs and bringing renewables to south Lansing. Working with the Ingham County Land Bank, the Capital Area Chapter congregations outfitted a new low-income house with a 9 kW solar energy system, allowing the new homeowner on Avalon Street in south Lansing to profit from self-generated power. These projects have inspired further implementation of renewable energy in Lansing area houses of worship and low-income housing.
