GREATER LANSING UNA'S
Peace Pole Project
GL-UNA Plants Peace Pole on MSU Campus
In September 2024, Greater Lansing United Nations Association (GLUNA) dedicated a Peace Pole on MSU’s campus in recognition of the International Day of Peace. Located behind the International Center next to the Red Cedar River, the six-sided cedar pole carries the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in 12 languages.
During the planting ceremony, a person representing each language went up to the pole and said “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in their own language. Also, the oldest member of GLUNA, 100-year old Bill Root, and the youngest member of the GL-UNA Board of Directors, BreAsia Fletcher, unveiled the pole.
The project was created as a lasting symbol of peace and community, reflecting the many cultures and backgrounds represented at MSU. The dedication was part of PeaceQuest Greater Lansing, coordinated by GLUNA annually. Since the planting, many people of the Greater Lansing area “meet at the peace pole” for various reasons. The pole has become a meaningful part of our community.
